Paintings of Maine: A New Collection Selected by Carl Little

Authors: Carl Little and Arnold Skolnick

The author presents the Maine landscape as seen through the eyes of more than a hundred artists, with colorful historical and anecdotal commentary by Carl Little and well-chosen quotes to enhance the visual art. The painters represented span a period of 150 years, from the mid-19th century to the present. In addition to the classic artists considered to be the core of the canon, the book includes some newer painters, such as Jill Hoy and William Irvine. Just about every medium is represented, including oils, watercolors, acrylics, and casein.

Author Information: CARL LITTLE is co-author of 11 books of art and the sole author of a book of poetry. He is a renowned art critic and has written for many art and lifestyle publications. He lives in Mount Desert Island, Maine, and is currently the director of marketing for the Maine Community Foundation.

ARNOLD SKOLNICK has published more than 50 art books and has won four "50 Best Books of the Year" awards from the American Institute of Graphic Artists. He lives in Chesterfield, Massachusetts, near the Berkshire Mountains.
