I have been a craft-artist for over 40 years, a potter for 25 years, and a silk painter for 10 years. Really liking to work with color and functional art, I'm now creating one of a kind felted mittens inspired by the traditional boiled wool mittens that have been protecting fisherman's hands from the cold for generations.
The creative part for me is dying the wool. Each pair of mittens is individually dyed, keeping in mind colors of the sea as I work. After being steamed to set the dye the wool is knitted and then felted.
I love the ocean and all it's gifts to the senses. I`m glad I can create something that relates to these qualities.
Cheryl hand dyes the wool, knits her mittens, then felts them. The felting process causes some mittens to come out smaller, some larger. Northern Tides carries a variety of Cheryl's mittens. Please e-mail with questions regarding current inventory and sizes.
