Bonnie Beard

Location: Lubec, Maine

I am fortunate to have work that requires me to be open, receptive, and responsive to beauty. The experience of sitting by the water and and watching its reflections dance across a rock face or losing myself in the rhythm of seaweed moving in the current is part of my work. I paint on-site or take these experiences into the studio. I start with a vision, but soon I am asking where the painting is going. Both small works done with the minimal set up time and the physicality of large canvasses and brushes push me in a free and spontaneous direction. The painting is done when its balance has integrety and harmony. This may be accomplished the day it is started or in a year.

At times painting feels spontaneous and expressive. At times I stuggle to discover what would make the painting work. In either case, hours fly by. It is my hope that the joy I find in this pursuit shows in my work.
