Favorite Mittens: Best Traditional Mitten Patterns from Fox & Geese & Fences and Flying Geese & Partridge Feet
Author: Robin Hansen
Robin Hansen can justifiably claim to be the person who started the groundswell of interest in "roots" knitting patterns for mittens. When her little pattern book with the folksy cover and the catchy title was published by Down East a generation ago, it was an instant success, and nary a knitter above the age of thirty has not heard of Fox & Geese & Fences: A Collection of Traditional Maine Mittens. That knitting phenomenon was followed by a second, equally inspiring collection: Flying Geese & Partridge Feet: More Mittens from Up North & Down East. Together, these books sold more than 48,000 copies, and once they went out of print, used copies became difficult to find.
Favorite Mittens, a compilation of some of the most popular traditional designs from Robin’s groundbreaking first two books. Favorite Mittens presents these tried-and-true patterns in a new format, with step-by-step directions revised and updated for ease of knitting, thanks to the helpful feedback Robin has gotten from the knitters who flock to her workshops all around the country.
Author Information: ROBIN HANSEN is a recognized authority on traditional mittens -- knitted and otherwise. In addition to her books, she has written articles for Interweave Knits, Knitter’s, Vogue Knitting, and Knitting Now and has taught workshops from Texas to Surrey, England. Robin has a doctorate in folklore and folk life from Boston University, based on her knitting research in eastern Canada and Maine. She lives with her family and 25 sheep on a small farm in West Bath, Maine.
